~Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.~

Ovations for the Cure Encourages Supporters to Wear Teal
on September 7, 2007 to Raise Awareness About Ovarian Cancer

NATICK, MASSACHUSETTS – July 25, 2007 – Ovations for the Cure, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the relentless pursuit of a cure for ovarian cancer, is asking supporters to wear the color teal on
“Wear Teal Day” – Friday, September 7, 2007.
The goal is to raise awareness and encourage supporters to donate to the organization’s Annual Appeal for Hope. Wear teal on September 7, 2007, and you can help build awareness, spread the word and hope about ovarian cancer.

“Currently there is no test available to detect or screen for ovarian cancer in its early stages, leading to late diagnosis in 75 percent of all cases. Ovations for the Cure (www.ovationsforthecure.org) offers a message of hope and directly supports ovarian cancer research,” explains Patty Franchi Flaherty, Ovations’ Founder and eight-year ovarian cancer survivor. “If each individual wears teal on September 7th, they will join in a growing wave of awareness about the disease and take the first steps to finding a cure.”

Symptoms of the disease include bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly, frequent or urgent urination. Experts say women should see their doctor if they suddenly experience any of these symptoms daily for at least two or three weeks.

Ovations recently introduced “The Hope Collection” as another way to wear teal. The collection includes cell phone charms, earrings and bracelets with teal and butterfly accents, pearls and Swarovski crystals to support research and spread the message of hope – to purchase these items, please visit www.ovationsforthecure.org. One hundred percent of all proceeds go directly to research and awareness of ovarian cancer.

About Ovations for the Cure
The Ovations for the Cure Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) not-for profit organization, is dedicated to the relentless pursuit of a cure for ovarian cancer in two critical ways: by proliferating broad-spectrum awareness of ovarian cancer risk factors and its subtle warning signs and through the continued support of new and ongoing ovarian cancer research and treatment initiatives. For more information about Ovations, please visit www.ovationsforthecure.org

Well, what can I say? I haven't updated the site for almost 4 months! I'd like to say that I have been gone on a Grand European Tour (my dream someday) but alas, I cannot! I guess I am still a bit sad, lazy and unmotivated. I have been fortunate to have time to grieve. My Summer was uneventful, but the Fall is filling up each day with short trips every couple of weeks until Christmas.....starting with the scattering of my Mom's ashes in Monterey Bay next week. She has been gone just over 2 years and wanted to be scattered at Big Sur and I just can't stand to go thru another winter without doing it! We are renting a boat and her ashes will be scattered during sunset (her favorite time). I will keep a small bit to enclose within a locket. :o) I hope everyone is doing well and that you are enjoying this wonderful Autumn season filled with so much beauty and peace.(Yes, peace, if you make the time to really savor each moment you have here on earth)

~~~ Great news ! We have a bat colony under our carport eaves ! About 20 bats swooped out this evening. I heard their little squeaks yesterday, but thought it was a mouse. Tonight we investigated closer and saw their sweet little heads, but had no idea how many there were. We watched for nearly an hour until they emerged. As a gardener, I love bats! They eat tons of bugs including mosquitoes.....how great is that? I only hope they stay thru the year. Hope you are all blessed to have bats visit your area ! ~~~
